The USDA’s National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) is poised to dilute the meaning of the trusted organic label when it meets next week to decide what the label should mean for fish. The NOSB will vote on their recommendations for “organic” fish production that would allow fish to carry the USDA organic label—despite being raised under conditions that fail to meet fundamental USDA organic principles.

"Wild Salmon In Trouble" (www.watershed-watch.org/sealice.html), a new short animation released today online, takes viewers on a provocative tour of how salmon farming and sea lice are harming wild salmon. Produced by CAAR member group, Watershed Watch Salmon Society, the short video aims to increase public understanding of salmon ecology and interactions with sea lice on wild and farmed salmon, and to help bridge the gap between technical science and an understandable depiction of what can often be a complicated issue.

2007 Salmon Farming Industry Compliance Report Misses Major Concerns

The BC government is wrongly claiming that commercial secrecy comes before the public’s right to know about the extent of sea lice infestations in salmon farms, according to a submission to the Information Commissioner just filed by Ecojustice (formerly Sierra Legal Defence Fund) on behalf of the T.
