Choosing not to sell farmed salmon sends a strong message to industry and government that you don't support open net-cage production (the way all farmed salmon on the market is currently raised). You can also support innovative solutions that will substantially improve the sustainability of the industry.

Let government and industry know

Transitioning BC salmon farms to closed containment systems would address many of the impacts open net-cage farms are having on marine mammals, wild salmon and ocean health.

Send a FAX and tell BC Minister Hagen and the Directors of the two largest salmon farm operators in BC - Marine Harvest and Mainstream - that you support their investment in commercial scale closed containment technology. This move will help protect wild salmon, improve the sustainability of farmed salmon and protect the health of our oceans.

The success of our business has been built on our commitment to provide quality products to our customers. As such, we have made the decision to stop selling farmed salmon until impacts on wild salmon and ocean health are adequately addressed. Our customers have supported this move.

As a business conscientious of both consumer demand and marine issues, I strongly encourage both government and industry to embrace the development and implementation of closed containment technology.

Globally, closed system aquaculture facilities are a thriving industry. Closed systems for salmon farming in BC is not only possible, it is urgently necessary to ensure both farmed and wild salmon can thrive on our coast.

BC has a unique opportunity to become a world leader in closed containment technology, providing jobs, protecting wild salmon and fulfilling unmet global demand for a sustainable farmed salmon product.
